My DC character, thanks to DC Universe Online

Just thought as I am exploring the DC Universe in the New 52 would my continuing love of DC and talk about my character I get to play in the DC realm.

Late 2010 (Early 2011 for PS3) DC release DC Universe Online, a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG, although Massive and Multiplayer may be switched lol). In this game we are introduced with a end of the world scenario, the future having been attacked by Brainiac, who has harvested the powers of the universes super heroes and placed them in nano like bots called Exobytes. Well Lex Luthor the one survivor of the war for control of earth in the future steals the Exobytes from Brainiac, and travels to the past where earths heroes still survive and unleashed the Exobytes on earth, turning normal everyday citizens into super heroes or super villains.

This allows you the player to create your own super hero, or villain. Once you pick your hero or villain status you may choose from three different mentors. The idea being that the superheroes or villains are to train you to take on the threat of Brainiac, who has appeared on earth. If you choose Hero, you can train under Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman. Not just the Big Three (creators of the Justice League) they are the three basis of powers in the game. Batman is Tech, Superman is Meta human or people who's powers come from themselves, while Wonder Woman's powers are magical her group is Magic. If you chose villain your mentors are Joker (Tech), Lex Luthor (Meta), and Circe (Magic).
Once these classes are determined for you, you get to choose the power set of your character. Within the game there are about two power sets per character role. Character roles are basically the way you want to play the game to defeat the tougher bosses. The roles include Tank, using the powers of Fire or Ice. Controller using the power of Gadgets or Mental abilities, and the new Green Lantern power Hard Light. Healer using powers of Nature or Magic. Also all characters have access to the Damage role as a secondary role to there character. Now each role has a focus, the Tank is kinda what it sounds like, taking damage while dishing out damage. The enemies tend to focus on the Tank so that the other roles can do there job. The Controller focus is debuffing the enemy (doing status affecting attacks) and buffing your party. The Healer is exactly how it sounds, they focus on healing the party.  The Damage role, available to all characters regardless of powers, does just that, they focus on doing damage.
So after picking your power set you then get to choose your weapon set, anything from pistols to swords, hammers to hand blasts. You also get to pick from three movement sets. Flight, Super Speed, or Acrobatics.
Its from this point that you then can customize the color, costume and looks for your character followed by the naming.
Right now the point of the game is play through Iconic missions, which tend to focus on inspired events from the comic series. To reach level 30 from that point to get awesome looking gear, play tough version missions called Alerts, and Raids and party up and form a League of your own. You also once you reach level 30 and do the mission required are inducted into the Justice League. At some point they will do an expansion to the game allowing for characters to advance from level 30 and add new missions and gear and such.

So my boyfriend and I are enjoying this game we play a lot together. We have a level 30 character each, he created his in tandum with mine who was my first character created on the game.
My characters name is Giga Bit, a teen who's parents when infused with the Exobyte powers died, as the powers were too much for them. The Exobytes gave him control over Fire, super strength and the ability to fly, and his twin sister (my boyfriends character) the same abilities with Ice instead of Fire. Being not that big but now with a lot of power he took on the name Giga Bit, while his sister took on the name Mega Bit. They began searching for revenge upon Lex Luthor, who was later announced the cause of the outbreak of heroes and villains now popping up all over the place.
Before they could find Lex, Brainiac appeared and began harvesting the new heroes for there powers. Being separated from his sister Giga Bit was captured but managed to escape and took down with the help of Superman, one of Brainiacs harvester ships. Superman hearing his story has chosen to be a mentor for Giga Bit to train him to uses his powers not for revenge but for the good of all. Giga Bit then proves himself over and over again, and they induct him into the Justice League, after saving Superman from Lex Luthor who manage to escape from the battle.
He has also been reunited with his sister Mega Bit, who also escaped and was training under Wonder Woman.

So here is Giga Bit as he looks now, I have been working on him for quite some time, hes got some good gear and just working on his stats to make him a little stronger.

As you can see he has Superman's S on his chest (which for those who know is actually the kryptonian symbol for the house of El that Kal El or Superman was born into). This is an example of Tier 1 Iconic gear, actually being sold by Steel, the man who made a suit almost as strong as Superman and place the S upon it. The cape he wears also is a piece of Iconic Tier 2 gear, since Superman was my mentor also carries the S on it.
The gloves worn are also T2 gear giving off a Kryptonian Crystal feel. Lastly the boots are Tier 1 belonging to a suit of armor mad for Dr. Fate, I liked the look of the boots so I chose them instead of going with the T1 belonging to Steel.
I am currently working on completing my gear, needing a head piece, shoulder guards and a belt, and since some pieces have them legs. I think a majority  of this will be T1 till I get stronger and can work on T2 gear.

I also have a few other characters I am working on when I take a break away from Giga Bit:
This is G Defender, started out as a Fire Tank, and is now a Light Controller.
This is my actual Green Lantern character using the Hard Light Controller power set. This is Green Lantern Reservist Nic of Sector 2184 (earths sector).

This is one of my villains, making her a Sinestro Corp Reservist, this is Zellika.

After the defeat of Lex Luthor, he created an ultimate rival for Giga Bit. An Android duplicate this is Viral Ram. A Mental Controller.

Well hope you liked my little DC Character tid bit.

Justice League issue #1

The first comic to be released of the New 52, was the Justice League, released on August 31 2011. For those who don't know, the Justice League is a grouping of the worlds superheroes created in the original Justice League by whats known as the Big Three. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman were the original founders of the Justice League, the crew then grew out a little more adding more and more members.

Now we have a new era of the Justice League with DC's release of the New 52.

The cover of issue 1 features:
Superman
Aquaman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
Batman
The Flash
and Cyborg
Already just looking at the cover art we see how the super heroes have been modernized. The first thing that comes to mind is that the characters have evolved from just wearing tights. The costumes look as though they are wearing armor of sorts.
Even Superman himself has changes, they have finally done away with the red underwear on the outside of his tights (in my opinion its about time). While Wonder Woman on the cover still sports a more bathing suit with armor around it, the actual character design in promo art features her wearing pants instead. I feel they also have giving her a little more femininity, Wonder Woman in projects of late I feel was too masculine. This new design makes Wonder Woman look more petite while still retaining that strong warrior look.
Some smaller changes I have noticed as well. The emblem on Green Lantern and The Flash's chest have become more three dimensional and jut out from the chest, instead of looking like it was sewn into the design of the tights. As well Superman's cape has been included directly into the suit no longer a separate piece.
Batman, it seems they went with a look that complimented the animated version of Batman in the show Justice League, while also adding the element of an armor look.
Cyborg I have to say looks the least different with his look, and I think the reason being with his character design, and not having been very familiar with him to begin with, there are only so many ways you can draw a guy infused with machine and stay true to the character.
The last change is also a small one, but the hairstyles are more modern as well.

In the comic, we begin in Gotham, home town to the Dark Knight Batman. Who is currently being chased by Gotham P.D. while chasing down an unknown Villain. In a time (as the comic stats Five Years Ago) where the world did not quite see them as Heroes, but just masked vigilantes, who the world was afraid of.
Batman while being shot at from a couple helicopters continues to chase down this mystery villain, along the roof tops of Gotham. Catching up to his target this mystery man seems to have brute strength and Batman struggles, and just as the he tackles the mystery man, who sheds his guise and appears to be some kind of alien cyborg who almost gets the upper hand on Batman. The alien cyborg gets hit with what appears to be a glowing green  fire truck. Into which we see the first meeting of Batman and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), who Green Lantern seeing him for the first time states, "Batman? Your real?" The two banter when the choppers of G.C.P.D. catches up to them as well as the return of the alien cyborg that Green Lantern just took down. The alien cyborg shoots down the two choppers, who in turn get saved by some Construct Bats created by Green Lantern. The cyborg escapes into the sewers where Batman and GL follow, we see more witty banter between the two. And we also see the difference in character, where Hal will jump into anything blindly without a plan, we see Batman hesitate and assess the situation. The banter starts to get personal as GL berates Batman for having no powers and being just a man in a bat suit. Who in turn Batman removes GL power ring revealing Hal Jordan, and Batman makes an assessment of his powers. The fight heats up almost getting physical, when Batman realizes the cyborg is down the corridor around the corner.
They watch as it attaches a box to the wall and then arms the device, and finally shouts "FOR DARKSEID!" and the cyborg itself starts to ignite. Being the actor and not the thinker GL encases both, Batman and himself containment construct, should the explosion be devastating.
They then see that only the cyborg exploded while the box he planted remains, GL uses his ring to analyze it and the ring comes back with no known info. As the device is alien GL determines that maybe another alien will know about it, referring to that guy in Metropolis, and Batman states Superman, and GL asks if Batman knows him. Batman states no, but I have researched him and he is dangerous. To which GL exclaims is not a problem for him.
We are then taken to a football game in which a star player with recruiters in the stands wins the game, we learn the star is Vic Stone (who later becomes Cyborg), when leaving the stadium they witness a glowing green jet fly through the sky. Batman and GL land in front of a building  with a giant hole inside, GL states not to worry he will go in detain superman for questioning, and as he enters is blown back by a red beam of light.
A man in a blue, red and yellow suit with a red cape appears saying he will not be taken in so easily.
Leaving us to await the next issue at the bottom stating Next: Batman VS Superman.

I think this first issue was a really awesome introduction to the meeting of the super heroes of the league. We witness first off the growing conflict between Hal and Bats who have never really gotten along.
I think the first issue was really well done. I am excited for issue two and as well I cant wait the see the other number one issues that will start the origins of these heroes as well.
It will be interesting to see where they go with this version of the Justice League, who they will face, and what worldly or universal crisis will they save us all from in this series? I cant wait to find out.
So far everything I have read from Geoff Johns, with his revamp of the Green Lantern series and his Blackest Night and Brightest Day series, has been extremely well done. And the artwork instituted by Jim Lee is amazing. Intricate and detailed, I could only hope to become half the artist he is.

And as I have become more and more of a fan over the last two years, for me its nice to have a new starting point to get in fresh with these characters.
This week Green Lantern, Red Lanterns, ans Superboy, and the possible Batman and Robin will release on the 14th so hopefully I can pick them up and review them this week as well!

Me and DC Comics a New and Kindling Relationship

After a lot of disappointing movies from Marvel and nothing really new and exciting from them besides, Iron Man and Thor, who I was never a big fan of. I have found my Super Hero taste to be changing. I have always been somewhat of a Superman fan, I knew a lot about him and his story. Was a fan of Wonder Woman, (who by the way should still be played by Linda Carter, she still is smoking hot and gorgeous), and I know some of her story as well. I had read some of there comics but mostly buy watching movies and TV shows did I know these things.
I was browsing the comic book section of the book store and something caught my eye. Green Lantern Blackest Night, and I thought hmmmm that sounds interesting? Having heard the famous Green Lantern oath, "In Brightest Day in Blackest Night, no evil shall escape my sight, let those who worship evils might, beware my power Green Lanterns Light!" I realized that the title of Blackest night may explain some of where that oath came from.  In picking it up I began reading and was instantly entranced by the Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart and Guy Gardner, and there fight against a Zombie Army of Black Lanterns!
Before getting into this series here is what I knew about the Green Lantern: I knew he wore a ring and with that ring he made "Constructs" using his will power to fight. I knew the ring was not unlimited when it came to its power supply and must be charged using a battery that looks like a lantern! And I knew he was one of many in an alien Corp, the Green Lantern Corp. I also knew his arch nemesis Sinestro, who wielded a yellow power ring and the green was ineffective against yellow.
I have in turn since picking up that first Blackest Night comic learned so much more of Green Lanterns universe and become a fan (long before the Ryan Reynolds movie came out, which was amazing!).
And in having lost touch with my favorite Marvel Heroes the X-Men, (and if I hadn't already X-Men: First Class, the movie would have lost me completely anyway!), I found my self switching teams! From Marvel to DC. I have come to learn more about Superman and Wonder Woman, and from those involved in the Justice League some of the other super heroes as well.
What this is leading to is DC is doing a massive revamping of there characters, they do this to let their newer fans become familiar with there heroes in a setting and design that they can relate to.
In 2011 we see the beginning of this character revamp with the New 52, a brand new # 1 issue release for some of DC's most prominent super heroes.
I will be reading the following of the new #1 released issues and covering them in this blog:
Justice League
Green Lantern
Red Lanterns
Green Lantern Corp
Green Lantern: New Guardians
Superman
Supergirl
Superboy
Wonder Woman
And other possible titles as I have never really been a big fan:
Batman & Robin
Nightwing
Catwoman
Teen Titans
These comics follow some of the more prominent Super Heroes in the DC Universe. And the new number ones are to be released over the next few months.

So follow me on my review of the New 52!
