So here we go! For those who don't know, this issue picks up right after the War of the Green Lanterns series. Krona, a Guardian castaway because he wished to know the origins of the universe, had captured all of the Corp's entities. And then used them to control the powers they wield. He also managed to control Mogo and cause rings to be sent to just anyone in the universe, and at the same time controlling the wielders causing a Green Lantern War. The end result, Hal Jordan overpowered Krona and killed him. This in turn scared the Guardian's as they set in place a safeguard that the rings cannot harm guardians, and Hal managed to kill one. For this they discharged him from the Corps, while Sinestro, who for showing strength without the power of his ring to aid Hal, was chosen by a Green Lantern ring once more, causing much outrage amongst the Corps as Sinestro has been considered an enemy of the Corps for a while now.
Warning I will be doing a complete story review of Green Lantern issue 1, if you don't want to spoil it for yourself, I suggest you get a copy read it then check out my review!!!
As you can see, Sinestro is now featured on the cover of issue 1 Green Lantern, as a Green Lantern.
PLOT:
We open with Sinestro reciting the oath of the GL, while in shackles from the Guardians. Despite the fact he does not want to be a GL, the Guardians say this is his chance at redemption (one he feels he doesn't need), and they tell him to protect his sector. After taking his power battery and leaving, Ganthet (known suporter of emotion and the Human GL's) announces his rejection of Sinestro who should not be allowed the honor of wearing the ring, to which the other Guardian's surround him and focus mental energy on his mind.
We are then taken to Hal Jordan, in his apartment being pestered for three months rent from his landlord, when he hears a shout for help. Looking out his window in the apartment across the way he sees a man attacking a woman. Jordan leaps from his balcony through the window and starts attacking the guy, not seeing the cameras and movie crew behind them filming.
We then see him in jail, Carol Ferris has bailed him out, they talk about his discharge from the Corps, and that Sinestro was chosen once more by the ring. Carol tells him he needs to start enjoying his new life without the Corps, and being a space cop. To which he asks her out to dinner.
Were then taken to Korugar, Sinestro's home planet, over run by members of his very own Sinsestro Corps, torturing his people. He him self though in space gets attacked by a member of the Sinestro Corps, who tries to report to Arkillo, that Sinestro is a GL once more, but Sinestro kills him, and destroys his ring before it can find a replacement.
At dinner with Hal and Carol, Hal states he has a question for her, asking to co-sign on a car loan. This angers Carol and she leaves. He walks back to his apartment to see an eviction notice on the door when Sinestro appears in front of him. Stating that if he wants his ring back he will do everything Sinestro says.
This is the end of the issue. I am curious to see where this is all headed? Is Hal done with the Corps forever? Or will Sinsestro allow him to get his ring back? What did the Guardians do to Ganthet? Will Sinestro continue to be a GL or will he return to his Sinestro Corps an the power of Fear?
We see some small changes, the emblem of the GL protrudes off the chest now more like a badge, the green of the suite has a metallic sheen to it, giving it the look of armor instead of tights.
And lastly, Carol Farris also known as Star Sapphire should be on Zamaron, as during the events of Brightest Day, she was named Queen. She does state that she has not wore the ring since she has been home?
Curious to see where the GL's are headed next. Could it be possible the very Guardians themselves will be enemies, they obviously are not thinking very clearly if they have let Sinestro, who has murdered many a GL become a GL once more?
Next up Red Lanterns issue 1.
